What's a mom to do??

ok...so if Bubba knew I was sharing this with anyone he'd kill me...so shhhh...don't tell... but I just have to share!! (*names of the indiviuals are changed to protect the innocent! heehee!)

Tonight, after hubby had gone to work and all were tucked in bed, Bubba comes out of his bedroom with a huge grin on his face and says
"Mom, I have to tell you something"
Since he had just gone to sleep, I figured he wasn't yet dreaming or sleep walking, so I said
"What is it honey?"
He said "Today when I was going after a ball behind the ball shed Betty Sue* came up to me and kissed me on the cheek"
After my inner giggle I said " Well what did you do honey?"
He nervously giggled and said "Well I just stood there and watched her run away"
Ok..so at this point, I am laughing a bit outloud... I asked
"What did you do then?"
He matter of factly said "Nothing, but before class started again I told Mr. M(his teacher) what happened"
I said " oh...what did Mr. M say?
He said "that I'd better talk to my mom and dad about that one!"
When I questioned him about why he thought he needed to tell Mr. M his answer was this...
"Well Mom, that is just unacceptable behavior at school. I can't have girls kissing me all the time"

At that point I tried not to laugh so hard and fall off the couch! My little rule follower!!! Gotta love him!!

This isn't the first time we've heard about Betty Sue*. About a month ago I found a "love note" from her in his pants pocket while cleaning them out before washing them. ( NO I wasn't snooping!) When I inquired about the "love note" and Miss Betty Sue* he said
" Mom....I am almost in Junior High.... girls don't have cooties anymore"

hmmm....What's a mom to do??
Who could blame Miss Betty Sue?? What a cutie!!

SLO Breakfast

Today I had the opportunity to attend the monthly SLO Chamber Breakfast along with my fellow Ducks from my work. Among the speakers there was UFC World Champion Chuck Liddell. Now... if you have no idea what UFC is, or WHO Chuck is, well then let me explain.

UFC is a mixed martial arts fighting that has a boxing feel to it, well...except with a little more "umph". Chuck Liddell is by far one of the most widely known UFC fighters in the WORLD! He grew up here on the Central Coast and attended Cal Poly. Oddly enough, I was friends with his roommate in college and knew him when he was just a wrestler at Cal Poly! (I stake that as my little claim to fame!)

I'm not saying I'm this huge UFC Fan, but I do admit that because of Chuck's representation of the Central Coast( he still lives and trains here), I will watch his fights when ther are on free TV...which is usually a re-run because the live ones are on Pay per view!

Both my boys were excited when I came home with pictures and a personalized, signed autograph for them of Chuuuuuuuuuuck Liddell!!!!( that was done in my best annoucer's voice!)

Football Fever

We aren't normally the football frenzy type of family, except when it comes to the kids "teams". They each have their "own teams" that they have claimed, and when possible we do try to watch them play throughout the season. Several years ago we purchased them each jerseys of the their teams to sport when we rooted them on.
This year both of their teams have done so well, that they each made it into their division championship playoff games. It was a non stop football afternoon around here! With anticipation of a rival superbowl in two weeks (if both teams won), we eagerly watched both games. Unfortunately, in overtime Brandon's Green Bay Packers lost 23-20 which means on Feb. 3rd we will still be watching and rooting for Vanessa's New England Patriots to take the Superbowl all the way!!
We managed to take a brief break in between games and take a few pictures for moms scrapbook. We got silly and decided that since our pup Liberty is such a ball freak, that she needed a little football black under her eyes too!!

It's about time!

I have forever wanted to learn to play the guitar. Never took the time.....until now.

Bubba and I both started lessons tonight. An awesome man that I have the honor of being on worship team with, is giving up his Tuesday nights to teach beginning and intermediate guitar lessons (I have a ways to go before I get to that class!!)
I bummed a guitar off my dad for me to start with and then we took Bubba to see "Lightening Joe" to pick out his new guitar. Every boy deserves a new guitar don't you think??
We had an absolute blast! As I watched several young boys waiting for the lessons to start, I began to wonder if I was the only adult in the world who wanted guitar lessons! Thankfully a few more adults joined me in my quest!

I've decided a few things after our lesson tonight:
1. I should have done this YEARS ago!
2. Cute Little boy fingers are WAY more flexible than mommy fingers when trying to play guitar.
3. Couldn't put a price tag on anything when I saw Bubba's face light up during the lessons, and the joy in our heart as we listened to him strumming away in his room practicing with his new guitar!

May he keep mom motivated and inspired to continue to learn!

Braggin on my baby....

Just wanted to brag on my baby girl here a bit.....She's grown into such a sweet, young lady with a heart of GOLD!!! She's a responsible adult who stands up for what she believes in even when the crowd is going the other way! She loves the Lord with all her heart and isn't afraid to show it! She definitely exhibits the phrase "Jesus with skin on" I am amazed at her tender heart, and trust God will completely bless her in her endeavor to become a nurse.

As if that wasn't enough....to add icing on top of the cake....I came home today after work and a basketball game, to find my house completely clean. Dishes all taken care of, house vacuumed and straightened up. All this WITHOUT even being asked!!

So baby girl...if you are reading this...YOU ROCK!!!

WE LOVE YOU!!

2008 Project #1

Some people make New Year's resolutions...I make lists. Things I'd like to do in the next year. Several of my things on my list have to do with updating our house. Adding a little "umph" to some of the areas that just really haven't gotten any attention. Bring in Project #1 for 2008. Our bedroom. Since a new bedroom set isn't necessarily in the budget, it was time to call in the experts from all those shows on HGTV and getting things done within a budget! As I watched several of them Friday night, I seriously saw my bedroom in one of those ugly before makeover pictures! That was it! the straw that broke the camels back!

I got all fired up yesterday morning to do something about it! Within an hour, I was off to the fabric store, boys in tow to search out the perfect fabric to make a fabric covered, padded headboard. Thinking it might take me searching several stores, I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the first store and found the perfect! fabric....now..the price..Ah ha! It was WAY within my budget! Walked out of the store with everything I needed for 1/2 my budget!!! (that left more $$ for project number 2)

So today was the big productive day! The boys were great in the production part of it...and left the covering to me! (all my chair recovering experience paid off!) In the end, it was an easy, cheap project that really gave a whole new dimension to the bedroom. (Now I see why a lot of designers on HGTV do this in bedrooms!)

The finished product. We have such high ceilings in our bedroom that the height of the headboard really gives it a nice effect. Far cry from a four poster bed...but hey...can't complain!

"The Tree"....

For years, our beloved little kitty Peanut has had this facination with the Christmas Tree. Every year when the tree goes up after Thanksgiving, she assumes her position underneath it and there she finds herself night after night during the holiday season sleeping under the tree. Once in awhile I find a stray ornament on the ground that apparently was a result of a wild streak during the wee hours of the morning. One year, she even managed to find a mouse in it and proceeded to show us the next morning with all her pride! (hey..we live in the country remember!) We've often speculated as to why she does this silly thing... she was a wild kitty after all before she was adopted by us. Maybe she misses her outdoor trees?? Who knows!

And so, with great sorrow, I began the tedious task of taking down the enormous tree and all it's glory. There beneath the tree, was my little peanut taking in the scenery one last time!2007- Not exactly the best picture of my Peanut. No one told her that you need to stick your neck out to avoid that double chin effect!

2002- From the beginning, she loved the tree. This was the first year we had "the tree" and she instantly found her place. (this was also the year that she caught a mouse in it!)
